ISTD

This was the work I submitted to become a member of ISTD, the International Society of Typographic Designers.

The title of the brief was 'three minutes', with the restriction of using only one A1 sheet for the print parameter. This challenge influenced the format of my idea into a book. I designed a book about Harry Houdini because of the three minute time frame most of his tricks lasted.

I also developed the idea of 'revealing' Houdini's tricks in my work. I wanted to describe what the audience saw but show what was happening behind the scenes. All magic tricks are simple illusions so I wanted my work to have a simple illusion in it by making the 'reveal' a trick in itself.

To reveal the trick you have to open the book in the opposite way to which is usual. It's a simple construction idea which often baffles people, magic tricks are often just as obvious and simple. The overlay also adds another interaction element to the book making it something i hope people want to search through and play with.
